The Meadows community suffered fire and water losses last weekend. Neil May, the director of Spartan Claim Resources, was contacted by Dalton Davis, one of the victims of this loss. May said that about 2 units were damaged by the fire but 6 other units were damaged by smoke, soot, and ash. To add insult to injury the lower units were also flooded with water from a drain overflow and from waters coming from the firefighting efforts.
Yesterday May met the adjuster from State Farm to assess one of the first floor units. The unit was flooded with sewage and the ceilings had partially caved in from the upstairs water damage. May stated that he inspected another unit upstairs that had minimal water but the smoke, soot, and ash had permeated throughout the unit covered all of their belongings.
May said that he spoke with Scott Huss of the condo HOA and they already contacted the unit owners and supplied a procedural checklist to the residents.
We also met with the water/fire restoration company Mayday Mitigation and Construction services and their projects manager stated that they are starting to mitigate or remove all of the damaged personal property from a couple of the units. The HOA has obtained a vendor to test for asbestos and then the restoration companies can determine a clear scope of demolition for each unit as needed.
Contents Specialist of Spartan, Taylor Sakamoto, stated that it will be an arduous task of identifying and cataloging the damaged items that can be cleaned versus the items that are salvageable. She is looking forward to helping her customers return their home to preloss condition.
